It seems like the problems often addressed are "handling the firehose of emails at work" or "trying to create a creative work that you'll be remembered for," and if they aren't your problems typical productivity advice won't work for you
What I'm mostly trying to figure out right now is how to organize my work life so that I'm doing something that's 1) important and needed, 2) satisfying, and 3) causes minimal disruption to my family's wellbeing.
Especially the last item requires I will often need to put it on hold for a week or two on a very short notice, which complicates things a lot. I love working with people but I'd either have to cancel stuff at the last minute or work with a sick kid in my lap, neither of which seems good. So far all I know is I'd better keep writing, maybe some other kind of work will reveal itself in the process. We'll see.
The opening to this had me cracking up. I launched a private consulting business when I was pregnant--the productivity advice of all the bro marketers was completely inapplicable to my life. My daughter is now 16 months. I feel everything in this essay with every fiber of my being. I like my job and it's flexible but it's still hard as hell to manage with a toddler, and I'm worn out. To hell with ambition!
Appreciate you sharing your perspective! And best of luck finding balance.
The picture is gorgeous! You are very much are in the world of ideas with this blog, just not in the "hype productive" ideas (:
What are your productivity challenges right now?

Ah that's super hard!
You're writing consistently and being a good parent, so imo you're already extremely productive
